What do you do when your new serious relationship invites her lover of 15 years to dinner on the same night you are coming over—”because its his usual night to see me and you two really need to get to know each other.” Should you treat it like meeting her best friend or big brother? Get his approval? Be offended and break things off with her? Or show your savoir-faire and inquire where she would like you to sleep (perchance to Love)—with them or elsewhere? The answer is, of course, for the lady (or a gentleman in similar circumstances) to make her poly preferences very clear on the first date or even before it so that this invitation is not a surprise. The details are best discussed and agreed upon in advance for the comfort of all concerned. Other questions such as how to handle holiday etc gathering of each of your families when you are a triad, what to tell grown children if you are new to polyamory, whether you will date separately or together as a married couple and much more will also be open for discussion at this meeting. Miss Manners did not discuss this, but we will!
