Requirements Invoking Network Growth System (RINGS)
Personal Check List: First Ring

(This check list is intended for your personal use in applying for Circle progression. It encapsulates in a simple form the more detailed information listed in the RINGS Cycle—see CAW website at CAW.ORG. Please note that, while checking off your accomplishments here is a useful way to keep track of your progress in training, you will still need to present the written materials to the RINGS Coordinator along with a copy of this check list.)

First Ring—”Seekers”(Circles 1-3)
Color: Green; Purpose: Growth
 Become involved with CAW: attend one or more CAW events (festivals, workshops, nest meetings), correspond, subscribe to CAW-Phoenix elist, subscribe to Green Egg, etc.

This brings you into FIRST CIRCLE (Pluto)
Your purpose here is Contact.
To progress to the 2nd Circle, you must:
 Fill out a membership application (online) and send us the current annual dues for 2nd Circle. Date_________
 Receive CAW membership packet and ID card. In addition you are eligible for a discount on a subscription to our online e-zine, Green Egg, and a 10% discount on all classes and events sponsored by the Church or its subsidiaries.

This brings you into SECOND CIRCLE (Neptune)
Your purpose here is Getting to know us.
Minimum time in this Circle: 1 year.
To progress to the 3rd Circle, you must:
 Read Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein (1961 edition, not the “original uncut”--or unedited--1991 version).
 Read Drawing Down the Moon, by Margot Adler (at least read the chapter on CAW)
 Read Creating Circles & Ceremonies by Oberon & Morning Glory Zell.
 Read The Spiral Dance, by Starhawk.
 Read some other Pagan publications.

 Attend your local Nest meetings if available.
 Take classes that are offered.
 Attend further CAW events.
 Seek out other Waterkin with questions and comments.
 Write a short essay (1-2 pages) or record an oral presentation describing your understanding of CAW, and how you see yourself fitting in.
 Submit 3rd Circle application and dues to RINGS Coordinator. Date__________

This brings you into THIRD CIRCLE (Uranus)
Your purpose here is Growing.
Minimum time in this Circle: 1 year.
To progress to the 4th Circle, you must:
 Read Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard by Oberon Zell.
 Read at least 4 more books from at least three different categories of the CAW Bibliography.

 If you haven’t already done so, begin some form of training in magick, energy work, or miracle manifestation.
 Develop your social and relationship skills both within CAW and within the wider community. If possible, join a Nest or magickal Circle in your area.
 Take training in communication and group dynamics.
 Begin to identify personal issues from your past experience (childhood and otherwise); take steps to address any recurrent problems.
 Meet at least one self-set goal aimed towards improving your overall social skills and psychological well-being.
 Actively associate with the other members of the CAW outside of formal group functions. Organize at least one group social function on your own initiative.
 Demonstrate that you can work in harmony and cooperation with others by participating in the group consensus process within your nest.
 Attend and actively participate in nest meetings and give your input in a constructive manner.
 Take steps to address any issues of conflict with other members in CAW making use, when appropriate, of the CAW Conflict Resolution Policy.
 Reduce your imposition on Mother Nature by reducing your consumption and waste (reduce, re-use, recycle.)
 Spend time in intimate contact with Mother Nature; e.g. gardening, hiking, camping
 Meet at least one self-set goal aimed towards improving your overall health.
 Learn and use skills to earn a livelihood and support yourself and your family in reasonable comfort.
 Perform a cleansing and blessing ceremony in your home, ward it properly, and create a home or personal altar.
 Learn basic first aid and begin to study a healing technique of your choice (herb craft, massage, Reiki, etc.)
 Participate in at least one Community Service project in your area.
 Learn to perform at least 7 of the following life skills:
Change a diaper.
Drive a manual transmission vehicle.
Build a fire
Use a compass
Sew a seam
Build an emergency shelter
Swim without aid
Perform CPR
Cook a meal
Change a tire
Set a broken bone
Fire a gun or shoot an arrow
Deliver a baby
 Establish a regular spiritual practice to enhance your own state of being, strengthening mind, body, and spirit.
 Begin a spiritual journal. Write a paper on your own personal religious worldview, beliefs and ethics. Design your own “Credo” and include this in your spiritual journal.

Transition to Second Ring (Becoming a Scion)
 Contact CAW to find a ``Scion Advisor,’’ and call the advisor up and have a chat about CAW, being a Scion, etc.
 Obtain two letters of recommendation from members of your local Nest.
 Share water and become water-siblings with another member.
 Create a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a sort of academic resume detailing the ways in which you have met the requirements of the previous Circle, why you believe that you’re prepared to move further inward and how your moving inward will be of service to CAW as a community, to include with your Scion application.
 Write essay comparing the religion you were brought up in (or the absence of such), Neo-Paganism, and a third religion that you have studied on your own. Submit it to your advisor for review; who will then pass it on to the RINGS Coordinator.
 Submit 4th Circle application and dues to RINGS Coordinator. Date__________
 Undergo Scion Initiation ritual. Date__________
 Receive Scion Certificate, vows, red ID card and copper Dearinth
